Top 10 Best Shows in Las Vegas

#1 - "O" Cirque du Soleil

"O" Cirque du Soleil Best Las Vegas Show
In describing this extravaganza it might be best to call it a live dream fantasy rather than a show. But by any name, you will be thoroughly entertained, astonished and even amazed.

Over 70 million dollars has been spent on this production. It has a cast of 85 performers, 150 stage hands and an on stage pool with one and a half million gallons of water. And speaking of water, the show gets the name "O" from the way the French pronounce their word for water as in Eau de Cologne.

Unlike most other Cirque du Soleil shows that concentrate on performers, "O" presents a series of unique beautiful glimpses of  dream like sequences. At times there is so much going on it is difficult to view everything. You will see synchronized swimming done with unbelievable precision, acrobats on a trapeze descending into the on stage pool and a host of assorted characters hanging around the pool.

Suddenly, three 60 foot ladders appear and death defying divers launch themselves into the pool in unison. A barge floats in the center of the stage with acrobats and contortionists. In just a matter of seconds the pool is covered over by a hard floor and fire dancers are performing. Special effects including a flying carrousel which will leave you breathless. They go on for ninety minutes in the magnificent theater at the Bellagio Hotel.

#2 Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group - Best Las Vegas Shows
Imagine a show that no matter what country you are from, or what language you speak, will raise your spirits and put a smile on your face. The Blue Man Group has been doing this year after year and is now performing at the Monte Carlo hotel.

They are a trio of dark costumed men with blue faces, no ears and strange looking wide apart eyes. Their appearance is both unsettling and humorous at the same time. No words are ever spoken by the group, but by gesture and special effects they are well understood and the simple universal themes of their act come across to the audience.

Music, especially drumming plays an important role in their performance. Much of the drum sound is created by their expertise in playing home made musical instruments made simply of PVC pipe. There is also a great sounding rock band to which the group really rocks enthusiastically. They have a hilarious bit where rock star moves are taught.

They love to play off the audience and will invite people on stage to participate in their theatrical madness. Stuffing their mouths with marshmallows and splattering paint on a white canvas somehow works and is a part of the show's charm.

The Blue Man Group had its beginnings in New York during the late eighties. They opened off Broadway in 1990 and have been an amazingly successful act ever since. In the year 2000 they came to Las Vegas. From 2005 on, the Venetian Hotel was their home for many years, but they are now at Monte Carlo.

 #3 - Jersey Boys

The Jersey Boys Las Vegas Best Las Vegas Show
Somehow, by a strange quirk of fate, the streets of Newark, New Jersey gave birth to a musical group called the Four Seasons. This group has sold over 175 million albums. Their pop songs are possibly the classical music of our time. The show is a musical docudrama of the lives of the four men in the group, their successes and failures as human beings and performers.

Each member of the Four Seasons tells the story of the group from their perspective. This includes excerpts from the life of Frankie Valli, who was a member of the original group and their lead singer.  The stories are not pretty. They involve gangsters, loan sharks, drugs and alcohol and of course a stage filled with their musical successes. Twenty of their best selling songs are presented during the two acts. The show has won four Tony Awards including best musical.

Here is a partial list of the songs in the show that will put goose bumps on your sense of musical nostalgia. In fact their rock and roll beat still lives today giving pleasure to audiences of all ages; Sherry, Big Girls Don't Cry, Walk Like a Man, My Boy Friend's Back in Town, My Eyes Adored You, Big Man In Town, Stay/Lets Hang On, C'mon Marianne, Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You, Working My Way back To You, Rag Doll, Who Loves You, Short Shorts and Don't You Worry About Me.

Although the show cast is mostly men, there are three very talented women who dance, and play multiple parts of wives and mothers of the main characters.

The show is currently at Paris Las Vegas.

#4 The Beatles: Cirque du Soleil Love

The Beatles: Love - Las Vegas Best Shows
Seeing this show has been known to create a deep emotional love affair with the music of the Beatles. Imagine that you are seated in the Mirage Hotel theater. It has two thousand seats in a circle configuration. The furthest seat from the stage is only 98 feet away. In the theater are Six Thousand Three Hundred Speakers. You actually feel physically surrounded by the sound of Beatles' music.

The show is the brain child of the same artist who created Cirque du Soleil and has the same elements of beautiful fantasy. Mixed with these elements are thirty of the most loved Beatles' songs. Often the lyrics seem to give inspiration to the on-stage activities. As example, while an aerial ballet is enthralling the audience, the magnificent sound system is playing "Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds."

The sound, lighting, special effects and sometimes circus-like atmosphere give the show a mild psychedelic feel. And well it should, because it traces the history of the Beatles through the Sixties, the era of the psychedelic inducing magic mushroom (drugs).

Along with the music are some 60 characters who make the stage come alive. There are aerialists, street dancers and players of extreme sports such as ramp jumping on skates.

This show will either start or renew your love affair with the Beatles.

#5 Penn and Teller

Penn and Teller Las Vegas - Top 10 Vegas Shows
As you watch their show you cannot help but become deeply engrossed in both the magic performed in front of your eyes and the comedic commentary of Penn. Unlike many magicians, they actually explain how some of the tricks work, but then as they add just a slight twist to it you are still amazed.

They sometimes have audience participation. In one illusion they blindfold a woman and actually make her believe she is throwing knives at Penn. Teller, the other half of the act, never speaks on stage. He mimes his way through the performance and often plays gory tricks on Penn. Off stage they are good friends.

Aside from being an excellent magician, Penn is an accomplished juggler who claims to specialize in juggling broken liquor bottles. He and Teller have been together since 1975. They have been on Broadway and sold out theaters all over the country. Their act is now featured at the Rio Suites Hotel, Las Vegas.

The entire performance is enhanced by an excellent jazz piano player. Penn and Teller use a heart stopping realistic illusion to end their act (at least I think it is an illusion). They actually fire guns at each other and somehow catch the bullets between their teeth. I know it sounds improbable, but seeing is believing This magic act is by far one of the best of its kind and will leave you with lasting memories.

#6 - ABSINTHE Las Vegas

Absinthe Las Vegas - Top 10 Vegas Shows
This is truly circus in the round. But a circus unlike a traditional one. The acts are adult, edgy, a little naughty and a lot of fun. As an example, a woman wearing pasties steps into a large bubble. You don't find that in your everyday circus. Wild comedy along with acrobats and roller skaters vie for your attention. All this takes place in a fancy tent called Spiegelworld on the grounds of Caesars Palace.

This spectacular burlesque circus act is one that will keep you mesmerized and thoroughly amused throughout. The initial act thrusts the crowd right in the center of the action with a series of stacked chair acrobatics that almost make you think they're going to literally topple into your lap. The MC is hilarious along with his side kick, Penny, who will have you laughing uproariously with her off-color jokes and far fetched tales. Absinthe has everything...death defying acts, great improvisational jokes, sexy performers, and a hilarious audience interaction that will have you cracking up. It is a bit raunchy, so be prepared for the fun!

#7 Terry Fator and His Cast of Thousands

Terry Fator and His Cast of Thousands. Best Las Vegas Shows.
We have all heard someone say, "This is a million dollar act." Well, Terry actually won a million dollars with this act on America's Got Talent. When you see it on stage at The Mirage, the reason he won becomes obvious.

For the most part, the show consists of Terry Fator, a combination ventriloquist, excellent singer and comedian, having conversations with his various puppets. Fator's puppets easily give rise to comedic situations.

There is Vikki the 49 year old cougar who only dates guys 21 to 24. Another puppet is Maynard Thompkins, an Elvis impersonator who doesn't know any Elvis songs. Winston is a puppet the audience falls in love with, especially when he sings Roy Orbison's Crying. He is a turtle puppet looking for the Turtle Ranch as opposed to the Bunny Ranch.

Other members of the show's cast of characters are Johnny Vegas, a lounge singer who manages to incorporate the worst of Dean Martin and Tony Bennett. There is Emma Taylor who sings a spectacular version of the Etta James classic "At Last," Julius the soul singer and Wrex the crash car dummy.

I would be remiss if Walter T. Airdale the country singer with an eye for the ladies was not mentioned, as well as Hyphen - the Fifth Beatle who was thrown out of the Beatles group. Also, Duggie Scott Walker the annoying neighbor who has partied so much at concerts he sees strobes light everywhere. Finally, we have Berry Fabulous - a recovering lawyer who left that career as he begins his around the world tour as the world’s most famous male diva.

Many people see the show more than once. Fator proudly says it's to see the puppets, not him.

#8 Britney Piece of Me

Britney Spears Las Vegas
This is your chance to see one of the biggest pop divas on the planet live and up close. The AXIS theater inside Planet Hollywood was remodeled just for Britney's "Piece of Me concert" and her two-year residency. This 90 minute mesmerizing show delivers many of her greatest hits, including "Womanizer," "3," "Baby One More Time," "Oops!... I Did It Again," "Me Against The Music," "Piece of Me," "Scream & Shout," "I'm A Slave 4 U," "Circus," "Toxic," "Stronger,", "(You Drive Me) Crazy," "Work B$tch," "Everytime," "Lucky," "Til the World Ends," "Perfume," and others.

It is a high-energy uplifting show with state-of-the-art lighting, special effects (rain, fire, snow, lasers, fog), props (including a 50 ft tree!), sensational dancers and choreography, numerous costumes, and of course, the catchy music we all know and love. Imagine watching this in an intimate venue with a nightclub atmosphere that has all good seats, and boosts having the largest indoor projection theater in the world. Britney also spends some time personally chatting with the audience between songs. It doesn't really matter if you are a fan or not...if you are in Vegas, you must see this show and be a part of Vegas history!

Cap the night with "God Gave Rock ‘n’ Roll to You II" a KISS favorite ever since Bill and Ted’s Bogus Journey.

#10 David Copperfield

David Copperfield - Best Las Vegas Shows
We have all seen David Copperfield perform his amazing illusions on television, such as making the Statue of Liberty disappear and walking right through the Great Wall of China. But when you see it on television there may be a slight suspicion that it was done with technical special effects.

Seeing his act in person, at the MGM Grand Hotel will convince you of just how wonderful a magician he really is. Many critics say he is the best in the world.

Since it is impractical (if not impossible) to have the Great Wall of China on a Las Vegas stage, he does the next best thing. David sets up a large piece of sheet metal which the audience examines, covers himself and it with a sheet, and then miraculously appears on the other side of the sheet metal.

Although many magicians put their assistants in a box and proceed to saw them in half, David has a different way of doing things. He puts himself in a box, and with his arms and legs moving, the box begins to grow shorter shrinking his body into mere inches.

Accompanying David's vast stable of tricks and illusions is an excellent sense humor and comedy. It should be noted that David Copperfield has sold more tickets to his performances than any other solo entertainer in the world.

All About Las Vegas Show Tickets
Seeing the shows is part of the Vegas nightlife. It ranks right up there with gambling and dining. Getting tickets for these shows can be both expensive and nerve-racking. Follow these suggestions and you will be ahead of the game.

Ticket Sellers Are All Different: The first thing you should know is that all ticket sellers are not equal. Some have better prices than others. Some can get you tickets when seats are hard coming by and others might be able to get you a better seat location in the theater.

Which seats are best?: Let’s talk about the different type shows before we get to the ins and outs of ticket sales. The top shows can be divided into two types. There are celebrity shows (where a well known performer is on stage most of the show) and production shows (consisting of singers, dancers and other entertainers). It is better to sit up close in a celebrity show and often better to sit a little further back in a production show to get a better view of the entire stage. Some shows, like "O", have a lot of the action in the air, which make sitting further back even more important.

Ticket Prices: Top Vegas shows, like Cirque du Soleil productions are pricey and will run you well over $75-$125 a ticket for even the cheapest seats. However, most people will say it is well worth the price of admission. However, there are many other great production shows that can be seen for much less. Please see our show guide below.

Where To Get Tickets: There are numerous sources for buying show tickets. These include online ticket brokers and websites, even private party sellers. Surprisingly, show tickets can sometimes be bought directly from the theater or venue where the show is taking place. Since this is Las Vegas, always keep in mind that your hotel concierge can often perform ticket miracles in the presence of a nice tip. You should also know that hotel managers are usually very well connected and have been known to do the impossible when it comes to show tickets.

Don’t Get Cheated: As mentioned, private parties can be a source of ticket sales. Sometimes hard to find tickets are advertised on the internet through Craigslist, eBay or even in a local newspaper. Be very careful of scams when you buy tickets this way. There have been numerous cases where money is wired to the so called seller and the tickets they claim to have sent never arrive, or they turn out to be counterfeit. It is much safer to deal with a legitimate online ticket broker or website that specializes in hard to get show tickets instead of an unknown private party.

One well known site is ours, Las Vegas Direct, which you are on now. We have an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau and have been around for over 15 years years. You will find that our discounts are some of the best show deals around. We almost always have cheaper tickets than other brokers. When it comes to hard to find Vegas show tickets, good seat locations and ticket deals, we are the best.

Other Ticket Sources: Another source for tickets when you are in Vegas is Tix4Tonight. They are open at various locations around Las Vegas at 10 am, every morning. At that time they offer tickets to various shows (often at a discount) for that evening. You actually have to be there to make the purchase. They tend to have a limited inventory and seat selection, but you can get great deals on tickets if your schedule is open and you are welling to be flexible on what you see.

Vegas Show Dress Codes: Daytime shows are completely casual. Dress to be comfortable. Although there is no actual dress code, people tend to dress up for the evening shows, particularly the upscale celebrity performances. Obviously strict formal attire is not required at the shows or at most other places in Las Vegas. But, a good rule is to dress so you don’t feel out of place.

Free Show Tickets: Many casinos will give away free show tickets, or "comps" if you gamble enough. Be sure to use your players card whenever you gamble so they can track your play. Let them know you are interested in a free show. If you can put up with listening for 2 hours to a sales pitch on buying a timeshare the reward is sometimes free show tickets. It may not be the best show or the best seats, but the offer is legitimate. These sales people often pass out flyers in hotel lobbies.

Picking a Show: With so many choices, finding that perfect show can be a real challenge. In order to help we have put together a top ten list of the very best shows Las Vegas has to offer based on audience and critics reviews along with ticket sales. We have also included all the other worthwhile shows listed below.

Enjoy the show!

The songs are mostly lip synched, which does not matter much since the show is more about dancing and stage production (we know she can sing). It is a highly entertaining show. If you are even a small Britney fan, this is required viewing playing

Over 70 million dollars has been spent on this production. It has a cast of 85 performers, 150 stage hands and an on stage pool with one and a half million gallons of water. Night after night for over eighteen years this show has filled Treasure Islands' theater with enthusiastic audiences. Mystere is more than just a typical circus. It of course has its share of flying and swinging acrobats, performers of great athletic skill, mythical creatures, humorous clowns and a very large Japanese drum that beats to start the program. Along with all of this there is a man juggling a metal cube larger than himself, incredible music, singers, and a lot of popcorn falling from a dome like ceiling.

The shows start every 15 minutes (7 pm until midnight) at night, and 30 minutes apart in the afternoon (begins 3 pm on weekdays, and noon on weekends). We like the evening shows the best.  Close to $50 million was spent building this huge attraction and you can see it for free! Just stand by the Bellagio hotel on Las Vegas Blvd and wait for the show to start. You will be see an amazing artistic blend of music, light, and water. The music played changes all the time with dozens of songs played each day ranging from Broadway, classical, pop, to country. Popular artists include Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Elton John, Celine Dion and many others. No two shows are ever the same.

You will be amazed by the $17M digital live computer animation show created from 12.5 million lights on an overhead canopy directly above you that covers five entire blocks. This is coupled with a 550,000 watt sound system. Freemont Street is part of what many consider the more historic part of Vegas that still has much of the old Vegas charm. The casinos may be older, but the buildings are well maintained. You can also find great bargains on souvenirs, food and drinks. The whole area has a vibrant party feel to it.
