Las Vegas' Most Historic Hotel
Steps from the Fremont Street Experience, this historic hotel is four miles from the Strip.
Complimentary newspapers are delivered each weekday to the guestrooms, which feature coffeemakers and cable TV.
The hotel casino evokes San Francisco in the 1930s, and the on-site restaurant and deli stay open past midnight.
Golden Gate's Location: Downtown, Las Vegas
Accurately billed as Las Vegas' "Most Historic Hotel" by former Mayor Jan Laverty Jones in a 1996 ceremony, the Golden Gate has stood the test of time and then some.
Since opening as the Hotel Nevada in 1906, this modest, cozy establishment has stood placidly at One Fremont Street while the town -- and the world -- changed around it.
Fortunately, very little has changed at the hotel in the intervening years. At just 106 rooms, the hotel remains proudly dwarfed by its neighbors. Many of the original wood fixtures remain in place. The casino is just as active as opening day -- and just as intimate. Its shrimp cocktail -- widely acknowledged as the first ever served in Las Vegas -- is as popular as the day it was introduced.
Even as Las Vegas builds toward the heavens, the Golden Gate Hotel keeps close to the ground, rooted in its rich and wildly successful history.
What to expect: One of the smallest of the Fremont Street hotels, the Golden Gate adjoins the Fremont Street Experience, four miles from the Strip and eight miles from the airport. On-site amenities include a casino, gift shop, and ATM. Newspapers are complimentary in the lobby, and business services are available from the 24-hour front desk. Guest parking is complimentary.
