Why meditate? It would seem like a total waste of time in our busy schedules to sit still for 5, 10, or 30 minutes. That is what sleep is for, right?

Our minds are constantly chattering about something. Not a second goes by without thoughts. Even in our sleep we are often dreaming. However, a person going to the gym knows that they must take a break if they want to build up their strength and allow their muscles to grow. Otherwise, they will just be tired and their workouts will have minimal benefits.

Our mind is no different and needs a break too for it to function properly. Spending time with no thoughts sounds simple, but it is deceptively difficult. However, once you try it, even for a few minutes, you will see tremendous benefits, such as more peace, serenity and happiness in your life. When the mind is strong, it is better equipped to handle stress and all the other unexpected things life constantly throws at you.

One easy way to meditate is to just do an everyday task with full mindfulness. For example, when you drink your morning coffee, just observe all the flavors, the temperature, noises around you, your chair, etc. However, just observe without any thoughts or words. Try to do this longer and longer each day. As you advance, you can try the videos below.

Here is a good meditation video you can try.
