I stayed at Wynn Las Vegas for a two day trip. Rates were offered at
$179/nt (Mon-Thurs), which is good for Wynn. It was very hot outside (103+), but there was a nice breeze which helped keep things cool. Once I got to the hotel I did not go outside except for going back to the airport, so the weather did not matter too much. We arrived at the hotel and checked-in. The service is the best I have ever seen at any hotel. There was no waiting in line and we got our room within a few minutes. I have waited up to an hour at other hotels just to check in. The hotel is stunning. While not as impressive as the entrance to Venetian or Bellagio, it was still very luxurious. The botanical gardens you see at Bellagio are all over the place at Wynn. We grabbed some lunch at one of their more casual restaurants called Zoozacrackers, which is a deli. The food was amazing and the price reasonable. Their overstuffed pastrami/turkey sandwich was $13 and is enough for two people. The sandwich is huge and very tasty… overstuffed definitely describes it. Wynn has custom bottled mustard which is served at this place. The mustard is one of the best I have had at any deli. Next we checked-in to the hotel room. We booked a basic resort room. The entire floor is non-smoking, which was great for me, since I hate smoke. It is the only Vegas hotel I have visited with virtually no “smoke” smell anywhere … even the lobby casino is clean smelling. They have an excellent ventilation system. I usually get allergies from smoky Vegas hotels, but was allergy-free at Wynn. The hotel keys were monogrammed with our name, which is a nice personal touch. When we got to our room we were greeted with beautiful music and a wall-mounted HDTV showing flowers. Very impressive. The most impressive part of the room are the huge floor to ceiling windows. You feel like a bird looking down on the city. The curtains are all electric powered (it took us a few minutes to find the switch) and you can set the light to various settings, like blackout, dim, etc., with the touch of a button. Very cool. Our view was mostly of a construction site facing the Hilton, which was a bummer. Even though we were around 50 floors up, we heard the “beep beep” familiar construction sounds at 7AM. On my next trip, I’ll definitely ask for quite room. The sounds were not loud enough to wake us up, but annoying. The bathroom is wonderful with a TV you can watch from the tub or shower. Lots of details were considered, like having a hole under the soap dish, which keeps the soap holder dry. The bathroom has excellent lighting to make you look good. The shower is nice, but we found the water pressure a bit on the weak side. The sink also had draining problems. A built-in shower chair was a nice comfort feature. All the shampoos and soaps had a wonder lemon grass scent. Each guest also gets a silk robe and slippers. However, you can’t take them home, unless you want to pay for it. There is a wonderful assortment of goodies to eat and a well-stocked fridge in the mini-bar area. The fridge is hidden as a drawer, so you may not even know it is available unless you look for it. The mini-bar is expensive… $3 for a small soda, so we brought our own water, snacks, soda. Each floor has an ice machine (free). The room decoration and paint is gorgeous and we could see why each room costs about $1 million each. Another impressive feature of the hotel are the elevators. We never waited more than 30 seconds to get one and the ride is super-smooth. Next, we had dinner at SW Steakhouse. Great bar area and wonderful food. The petite steak was the most tender I have ever eaten. We sat outside and saw a projector show which plays at night. The show has movies with music projected on their waterfall. It is very unique. We now get to my absolute favorite feature of the hotel: The bed. This makes the price of staying at Wynn all worth it. I have never slept in anything so comfortable. It is a special Sealy mattress made just for the hotel. The mattress has a pillow top that makes you feel like you are floating. I must have taken 4 or 5 deep-sleep naps during the day, since you almost instantly fall asleep on this bed. You can actually order a similar model bed for delivery at the Wynn Store. The only difference is the hotel version has a pillow-top on both sides. The cost was around $3000. Another thing about the bed were the pillows, which you can also buy. They are feather/down/cotton and feel dreamy. I might order these on my next visit. The sheets and pillow case have a silky feel are made from Egyptian Cotton. We got some lunch at a causal place in Wynn called Sugar and Ice. We were disappointed with the food, so I would not recommend it. The food was nothing special. The only good thing was their ice cream and cookies (peanut butter). Next, we tried the Wynn Buffet. We went early and had virtually no wait to get into the buffet. It was very good, but you need to be selective in what you take. The king crab legs with melted butter were very good (just wish they were bigger). You would not expect it, but their buffet pizza is amazing. The focacia bread was good too. The smoked salmon is also very tasty. Another good item are the rice dishes. The buffet has a risotto bar, which is unique, but we found the quality of the risotto to be poor. The desserts were good, with ice cream, cookies, and cupcakes being the best part. I would eat there again, but would not rate them as good as the Aladdin or Bellagio buffet. On our last night we explored the Wynn nightclub scene. We started at Lure, which is an ultra lounge. If you are a guest at the hotel, there is no entry charge. The place is filled with luxurious leather couches. It has a very cool vibe to it with an outdoor section connecting things. The drinks were excellent and you can order everything from an apple martini to a $16,000 bottle of liquor (I’m not exaggerating). They have gorgeous go-go dancers and waitresses. The music is low-key and not too loud, so you can easily talk to other people. There are many quiet romantic spots scattered around the place. After Lure we visited Tryst, which is more of a traditional club scene. There was a very long line to get into the place, but if you are guest, you can get in fairly fast and just need to let them know you are a hotel guest. Even though we were hotel guests, we still had to pay $30 to get into the club ($10 for women). If you are not a guest, it seemed like you needed to be on their “A” list or be a celebrity to have a chance of getting in the place. The place is very cool with a huge mountain and natural waterfall being the center of attention. It felt like you were on a wild tropical island. The place is filled with lush red leather couches. There is an outdoor pool and lots of small tables to sit and talk. Go-Go dancers can be seen moving to the music. Unlike most big clubs, the music was not too loud and you could easily talk to other people. We also caught the main show at Wynn, which call Le Reve. Every seat is very close, even if you are in the back room. I liked it, but would not put it in the same league as "O" at Bellagio. If you have already seen "O" and like dreamy Cirque shows, you should see it and will not be dissapointed. The show is more about creating a special feel then acrobatics. It has its share of high-diving and circus acts, but nothing like most Cirque shows. Overall, it was more like a weak version of "O" with most of the show taking place above, under, and on a water-filled stage. On the way back to the airport we decided to try the Rio seafood buffet. We heard a lot of good things about it. It is pricey. I’m not sure if it was really worth the price. We envisioned all you can lobsters, but they just had tiny lobster pieces and really small rock lobsters that looked more like shrimps. The crab legs were nothing special and of lesser quality than most other buffets, like Bellagio, Paris, or Wynn. Not sure I would eat their again. They had good bread, but served butter spread with it. We had to ask our waiter to bring out real butter. Desserts were okay, but nothing great. I would definitely stay at Wynn again and highly recommend it, especially for people who have done most of the Vegas touristy things, like Bellagio or Venetian. This hotel is all about service and comfort. |
