Smile $500 contest entry: Pack Light

My entry for the best Las Vegas advice would be to pack light. Most hotels are without any dress code, which means you can wear whatever is comfortable at any time of the day or night. Shorts, sandals and tank tops or T-shirts are fine during the summer for almost everywhere. In the winter it can get cold, so you will need to dress warmer. A good pair of walking shoes is a must.

The desert winds can dry you out, so some moisturizing eyedrops and body lotion might be a good idea. Don't forget the Sunscreen. You can burn really fast in the desert heat.

My tip are the giant frozen margaritas at MGM! One should last you the whole day and don't even think about drinking two!

Hmmm ... My best Las Vegas advice. I like to have a guys night out when I go with a group of friends. Start out with a nice Steak Dinner and good conversation. Some gambling after. Next, hit the bars and clubs. Just be wild and crazy for a night!

Here is my tip that I use to get the best hotel prices. Book during the middle of the week, when hotels start competing more for customers. Weekends are the worst time and if they see sales are slow, by the middle of the week (Wednesday is good), rates should be the lowest. I also like to book at 1AM on Wed morning, since that is when hotels and airlines reload their computers with low fares and hotel rates. Sounds crazy, but it really works.

A little known secret near the Vegas strip is Red Rock Canyon. It is about 30 minutes from the strip and amazing. Definitely worth taking a hiking trip in it. One of the best hiking trails in the country.

I have just returned from Las Vegas this morning and as a first time, 21 year old visitor, I thought I would share my advice. First, to save time, pack very light if you plan on gambling and hanging at the pool for the most part. I played poker for the majority of the time I was there and only brought a draw string bag for a 3 day trip. Second, if you are looking to play poker, the Bellagio has one of the best poker rooms for Texas Hold Em while the Venetian might be the best place to play limit Omaha. Also, for roulette players, I noticed that the Venetian had a high limit table (min $100-max $500) if you are a high roller. I recommend shying away from slots because your odds are the worst there, but if you must, check ou the slots near the doors of the casino. Third, be sure to speak with any locals, bar servers, and cab drivers for the best places to go for specific things, such as a steak dinner or the best club to attend on the weekends. Also, know that many casinos offer free 30 minute classes on how to play casino games if you are unsure how to play. Never sit down not knowing how to play or you will get burned. As always, be careful and have fun. If you find yourself losing a lot of money, it is always fun to watch others play roulette, find a goup slot machine game, or check out the shows they have in Vegas.

I will leave you with this. For those of you who are planning on doing a lot of drinking: Never pay full price for a drink. If you want to drink, sit down at a slot machine or card table and wait for the waitress to walk by because drinks are free while you are gambling in vegas. Just tip the waitress a dollar and you can cash out of the game and have a dollar drink. Hope this helps. Good luck and thank you for reading.

PLAN YOUR VISIT TO VEGAS, WHAT HOTEL YOU WANT TO STAY ? WHAT SHOW YOU WANT TO SEE? WHAT PLACES YOU WANT TO EAT? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? I LEFT GAMING LAST BECAUSE YOU CAN DO THE 24/7 LOL. ARE YOU GOING TO RENT A CAR ? IF YOUR ON THE STRIP I WOULDNT YOU CAN WALK FASTER AND SHARE A CAB OR TAKE THE DUES BUS TO GET AROUND.IF YOUR BUDGET TITE YOU CAN TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ALL THE FREE STUFF TO SEE IN VEGAS. THE FOUNTIANS AND CONSERVETORY AT BELLIAGIO, THE FORUMS SHOPS AT CAESERS PALACE, THE VOLCANO AT MIRAGE AND PIRATE SHOW AT TI , EVEN THO THE OLS PIRATE SHOW WAY BETTER WHEN IT WAS TREASURE ISLAND LOL. THE FREEMONT EXPERIENCE DOWNTOWN BUT SEE IT BEFORE MIDNIGHT OR ELSE YOU GET HOUNDED BY THE HOMLESS DRUNKS .HARRAHS CARNIVAL COURT A GREAT PLACE TO HANG OUT , AND CHECK OUT THE LOUNGES FOR A PRICE OF A DRINK YOU CAN DANCE TO SOME REALLY GREAT BANDS. For me, one of the best things about Vegas are the free drinks! However, in order to get them, you need to stay at one table or slot machine for a while so the waitress sees you. Next, give a good tip. Considering the fact that I'm getting a $10-$15 drink for free, $2 per round is not that much to pay and will keep the drinks coming as long as you want them.

Comfortable shoes! This is no place to try out a new pair of shoes and definitely no place to go with style over comfort. Packing light is good advice but toss in a few bandaids and a bottle of tylenol.

We drove to Vegas with the kids(ages 7,8,10,11) and it was neat to go to the different hotels. Some like Luxor has an arcade that the kids enjoyed or the roller coaster at New York, New York. Otherwise, we just looked at everything in nearly all the hotels on the strip. The best food deal we found was a 2.99 burger combo at Palace Station and in the casino they had an oyster bar that made fresh gumbo that knocked our socks off. Beware of the lineup - it takes at least a 1/2 hour per person for each bowl of soup!

For New Years Eve we had a blast at the Hofbrau House, since they allowed the kids and it was a real party. Music, dancing, pretzels and German Beer flown in from Germany EVERY DAY.

For some cheaper, non restaurant food - use your car and save some money at Walmart or Costco, since your card is valid even from Canada.

FYI Even though we live 2000km North - the weather was only 5-10 degrees C warmer at New Years. Sun, but cool in the shade during the day;chilly at night.

No swimming in December - only Hot Tub.

The $1 margaritas at Casino Royale are strong, tasty, and a generous portion for cheap. Also $1 fried Oreos at Mermaids downtown.

If you plan on going out to the clubs, actually pay attention to the promoters who approach you on the street! They're (mostly) not scam artists and work directly with the best clubs so they can really hook you up with line passes, free cover, and sometimes free drinks.

Girls...be friendly and look your best and you will get things for free.

I recommend Harrah's group of casinos' Buffet of Buffets (the $40, 24-hour buffet pass). The best way to make use of it is doing a late dinner, a breakfast, lunch, and then an early dinner. And definitely hit the Paris buffet for one of your meals.

Go to Vegas during Halloween!! I went this year and it was such an awesome time.

If you check in late in the day (post 10pm), you seem to have a better shot at a free upgrade.

We all know that visit Las Vegas is like walking into a dream, and my advice is to enhance our visit, it is necessary to make a plan, that is, if you are lucky enough to know you know you cannot go all in a few days, then the first see what they really want to know and intended to explore an area, then get to the bus or monorail path that leads to that area, it also costs lowered resting in transport, then prepare some good tennis and water to start the tour.
In addition to the Strip and Fremont Street experience, having time for all theme shows, including Elvis, Beatles, CSI Experience.
Then get ready for shopping, you can choose from that area or if any of the many that is, north and south Premium Outlets, Las Vegas Outlet Center, Forum shop, Meadows Mall
If you want some culture you have to visit many libraries, places and educational activities as they have with 41 museums, including: Bodies The Exhibition at Luxor
Hartland Mansion was home to Elvis's wedding are now considered historic place, Sports Entertainment, a Zoo and Aquarium, wedding chapels, several amusement parks (Sunset Park city park), landscapes and wonders of nature, golf courses , observe the flora and fauna of the Grand Canyon and preserve Springs helicopter, Evolution Expedition Kayak tours, Show Bus of the Stars and Gold and Silver Pawn shop ...
Any activity you want to do is like living inside a dream...

Arriving before check-in time at your Vegas hotel should be the least of your worries. If you arrive early and your hotel doesn't allow early check-in, grab what necessities you may need for the next couple of hours, drop your bags off with the bellman and be on your way. With so much to do here, don't waste your time in the lobby. Even if it's the most beautiful lobby you've ever seen.
