Cornell University actually did a recent study comparing many of the online hotel reservation companies. The results of who had the best deals had a lot to do with the type of hotel. For Luxury 4 and 5 star hotels, Travelocity was in general the cheapest followed by calling the hotel. For your midrange (3 star hotels), the hotel website (not calling the hotel) appeared to have the best rates. For budget hotels, the hotel websites lead followed by Orbitz and Expedia.
We (
LasVegasDirect.com) were not included in this study. In most cases you will find that we are truly cheapest for all types of hotels, since we have access to many suppliers, including Travelocity, Priceline, etc., and then pick the lowest rate found. Because we are relatively small, we also get deals with smaller hotel distributors that provide extremely competitive rates. Our overhead is also much smaller and we can pass that savings on to the customer. Finally, since we are focused on Las Vegas, we find suppliers with the lowest prices for specific hotels.
